‘Community build’: London Home Builders Association fixes cabin decks at Camp Kee Mo Kee

Members of the London Home Builders Association (LHBA) were hard at work for their annual charity build.On Saturday April 25, 2026, more than a dozen renovators, contractors, suppliers and sub trade members were at Camp Kee Mo Kee building a pair of cabin decks.

“Every year we do community builds,” said Luke Van den Bosch, co-owner of V+V Homes and the chair of the London Renovators Council (LRC).

‘It’s usually a fun day where we can do something small that we can tackle in a single day.”

Camp Kee Mo Kee is a classic, inclusive children’s camp owned by the United Church of Canada. Located in Komoka, it is surrounded by forest trail and features cabins and campfire.

“It has been here since 1960,” said Don Ardiel, chair of the property committee at the camp.

“I was here as a child in about ’61 or ‘62. it has operated as a children’s camp in that entire time, and we are constantly doing upgrades. We have made a number of our cabins completely accessible by adding door operators and ramps. We have just come through another major energy project where we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent.”

In 2025, the LRC built a community garden for Indwell’s Embassy Commons. This time it was building decks for Cabin number two and number eight.

“We are always hoping for a charity or a nonprofit organization and something that will give back to the community,” said Van den Bosch.

“I know there’s a lot of members, part of the LHBA, that have gone to Camp Kee Mo Kee or live in the area, so it was close for a lot of them.”

In a tough economy, everyone is facing financial challenges. Ardiel believes to duplicate this project, the camp would have to fundraise and come up with teams capable of doing this type of renovation.

“These decks have made a huge difference to our aging cabins,” said Ardiel.

“These cabins were built in the early ‘60s and the stairs used to just come right off. It’s just wonderful that the London Home Builders Association has contributed so much to finalize our big deck building project.”
