A 45-year-old man from Guelph was arrested at the U.S. border for possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material. Guelph Police said their Internet Child Exploitation Unit was contacted by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children in May about materials shared on an unnamed social media site. Police said the investigation led them to an address in the city’s west-end. In June, they searched the property and seized electronic devices. Police said the 45-year-old was arrested a few days later as he reentered Canada from the U.S. They also seized additional devices. After looking through them, officers charged the man with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material and making child sexual abuse and exploitation material available. Child sexual abuse and exploitation material was formerly known as child pornography.
