Driver charged after officer notices concerning behaviour

Concerning driving behaviour has led to charges for a Guelph man.

A Guelph Police Service officer was patrolling in the Victoria Road South area around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday. She noticed a pickup truck being driven without its lights on and the driver made several lane changes without signalling.

When the officer pulled the driver over, the truck mounted the curb before driving back onto the road.

The officer said she could smell alcohol on the driver’s breath and he failed a roadside breath test.

He was arrested and taken to a police station where testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

The 29-year-old man was charged with impaired driving, driving without proof of insurance and driving with improper lighting. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.
