14-year-old charged for speeding away from police in vehicle without plates

A young boy is facing a dangerous driving charge before he can even apply for his G1 learner’s permit.

A Guelph Police Service officer spotted a vehicle that didn’t have licence plates being driven in the Clair Road East and Gordon Street area on Wednesday around 2:30 p.m. When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to slow down, ran a red light and numerous stop signs and sped through a residential area at nearly twice the limit.

The officer did not chase the driver in the interest of public safety, but the abandoned vehicle was found a short time later.

Then the owner of the vehicle arrived and told police who had been behind the wheel.

On Thursday, a 14-year-old Guelph boy went to the station with his parents. He was arrested and charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without consent and driving without a licence.
