Teen with replica handgun arrested in Brantford

A 16-year-old boy is facing weapons charges after police were told someone with a gun was spotted near a housing complex in Brantford.

Witnesses told the Brantford Police Service they saw someone in a moving vehicle holding what appeared to be a handgun around 9:05 p.m. on July 4. The person in the car was also using a shirt as a makeshift balaclava to hide their face when they allegedly pointed the gun at the victim.

Officers tracked down the vehicle and stopped the driver in the Elgin Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway area. The suspect was arrested and officers discovered the gun was a replica. They also learned the suspect and victim knew each other.

A 16-year-old boy was charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and disguise with intent.

An 18-year-old woman was also in the vehicle. Police said she was charged with breaching a court order prohibiting her from being near the housing complex.
