Grand Erie Public Health flags three new potential measles exposure locations

Published:

Grand Erie Public Health is warning the public about three new possible measles exposure locations as the disease continues its spread in southwestern Ontario.

They are as follows:

  • Delhi Community Health Centre Walk-In Clinic at 105 Main St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on March 7
  • Glen Meyer Old Colony School in Langton (1436 1st Concession Rd.) from March 3 to March 5, between 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Valley Heights Secondary School in Langton (2561 Highway 59 South) on Feb. 25 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Officials said anyone who was at any of these locations, during the specified times, should fill out a measles exposure form.

According to the health unit, there have been 82 confirmed cases this year within their coverage area. Nineteen on those illnesses involved adults, while the rest were in children.

All but three cases are linked to Norfolk County.

Measles is a highly contagious virus that can spread easily through the air, or when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Symptoms usually begin 7 to 21 days after exposure and could include a high fever, pain, runny nose, red swollen eyes and cough, followed by a bright red rash.
