Brantford man killed in crash involving gravel truck near Hamilton

A man from Brantford has died in a crash involving a delivery truck and a tractor trailer hauling gravel.

Ontario Provincial Police said the fully loaded tractor trailer was travelling eastbound on Highway 5 around 9:30 a.m. Monday. when the driver of a westbound delivery truck crossed its path.

“The driver of the tractor trailer was not able to avoid the collision. The driver of the smaller delivery truck was ejected in the head-on collision,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video posted to social media.

The driver of the delivery truck, identified by police as a 55-year-old from Brantford, was pronounced dead at the collision site.

“Beyond the crash, there was a post-collision fire of that delivery truck and there was debris spread all across the highway,” Schmidt continued.

Police closed Highway 5 between Millgrove Road and Rock Chapel Road during the investigation. Schmidt expected that closure to last until approximately 7 p.m.
