It was a wild-wake up call for a Nanaimo neighbourhood when a home was shot six times – prompting neighbours to take cover.

Mounties were called to a home on Wildlife Place for a report of shots fired at around 6:15 a.m.

Neighbours in the normally quiet neighbourhood reported hearing yelling before the rapid succession of shots.

"I told my partner just don't go near the windows, just stay hidden," said one area resident who wished to remain unidentified.

He said he then heard the sound of a car speeding away.

Others also reported a car seen fleeing the area at a high speed as well as two people running on foot into a bushy area.

A Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team and police dog was called in to help investigate but were unable to track down the shooter.

"There was upwards of five adults in the home. Nobody was injured," said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O'Brien.

Investigators were seen coming and going from the home Tuesday, where children's bikes were seen strewn about the front yard.

Neighbours say they know of at least one child living at the home.

Despite the multiple rounds fired, Mounties say the public isn't at risk and that the violence is believed to be targeted.

"We are canvassing the area and hopefully we'll come up with some video surveillance," said O'Brien.

CTV News attempted to talk to a man inside the home but was asked to leave the property.

No arrests have been made.
