Some schools cancelled classes, buses took the day off and drivers were warned to use caution after a fresh round of snow blanketed Vancouver Island.

Saanich School District cancelled classes and buses Monday, but said staff and students were still welcome to attend for supervisory purposes.

Victoria School District kept its classes open, but buses in the district would not be running, a spokesperson confirmed.

The Sooke School District also remained open and buses were still running with the exception of the Port Renfrew bus.

Schools were also open in Comox Valley, Campbell River and Nanaimo’s school districts, though buses were not running in Nanaimo.

Vancouver Island University and Camosun College cancelled evening classes due to severe weather conditions.

Around 3 p.m. Harbour Air cancelled the remainder of its flights.

BC Transit also issued a warning to passengers to expect delays on routes throughout the day due to roads slick from ice and snow.

The Victoria International Airport reported a number of delay and cancellations due to the weather. The airport encouraged travellers to check their flight status.

A snowfall warning remained in effect for Greater Victoria Monday morning, saying an additional 10 to 15 centimetres could fall by early Tuesday. Higher snowfall amounts were expected near the Malahat.

  • Saanich school buses are not running and schools are not operating though there may be some supervisory duties underway if administrators can get into the schools.
  • Pacific Christian School is closed today.
  • Salt Spring Island schools are closed today.
  • Cowichan School district is closed today.
  • Queen Margaret school in Duncan is closed.
  • Elizabeth Buckley School is closed.
  • Discovery School is closed.
  • The Lau-wel-new Tribal School in Brentwood Bay is closed.
  • Maria Montessorri Acdamy is closed.
  • The Juan de Fuca Seniors Centre is closed.
