Reported illnesses may be associated with recalled item sold in two provinces

Si Ji Mei's Wuhan Egg Sheets with Glutinous Rice recalled due to Salmonella.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall for Si Ji Mei brand Wuhan egg sheets with glutinous rice in Alberta and B.C. for possible salmonella contamination.

The recall notice published Friday lists the affected item as Si Ji Mei’s Wuhan Egg Sheets with Glutinous Rice, 580 g, UPC: 6 977013 950971, code: 2025/09/12.

According to the notice, the recall was triggered by the company, and there have been reported illnesses that may be linked with consuming this product.

The CFIA advises consumers to check if they have the recalled product, and to throw out or return it to the location of purchase.

Consumers are asked to contact a health-care provider if they believe they become sick from consuming a recalled product.

Possible salmonella symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, with long-term complications including severe arthritis.

Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are among those who can get more severe infections.

While food contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, it can still make you sick, the notice says.

The department also advises to not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute recalled products.

The CFIA is verifying that the marketplace is removing recalled products.

The agency is also conducting a food safety investigation, which could lead to other products being recalled.

The recall comes following a massive salmonella outbreak linked to pistachio and pistachio-containing products across Canada, that has led to a total of 24 reported hospitalizations from salmonella and 155 cases of the disease in Quebec, Ontario, B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and New Brunswick.

The CFIA has imposed a temporary ban and updated licence conditions for businesses that import Iranian pistachio products and prepare products in Canada using these Iranian pistachios in an effort to reduce the risk of salmonella contamination.
