A group pushing for a second skateboard park in Victoria will make its pitch to city council Thursday night.

The Victoria Skateboard Association says there’s a big need for another park outside of Vic West, and is proposing a park that would include a beginner’s area for all skill levels and an area for more advanced users.

The site would be inclusive of all users, such as those on skateboards, scooters, BMXs and inline skaters regardless of age or ability.

The association says it has its eye on a few possible locations.

“In the Topaz Park area potentially, to meet the needs of the Quadra-Blanshard group. I know the community centre there is a hot bed of activity,” said spokesman Jimmy Miller. “Fernwood is another prime example, or if we talk about Crystal Pool and the eventual shaping of what happens with that facility, why not add a skate spot there?”

The group says without more skateboarding facilities, kids could end up skating in parking lots and other unsafe areas.
