A broken loader stalled construction in downtown Victoria on Thursday when it came through a top floor window.

The front-end loader was doing work at the historic Customs House around 9 a.m. when it came through the window and was hanging over the side of the building.

A worker had to smash out the back window just to get out.

An iron worker on scene, Doug Faulkner, said the man was shaken up, but was otherwise unhurt.

While the crew is used to seeing complications come up on work sites, Faulkner says he’s never had to deal with something like this before.

“I’ve never seen a Bobcat come halfway out the window, that’s a first,” Faulkner added. “I’ve seen steel come down, but I’ve never seen a Bobcat come out.”

The work was shut down during the incident.

“It’s an unforeseeable accident that happened, it could’ve been a lot worse,” Faulkner said.
