VICTORIA – It’s not much, but it’s something.

Two new parking options have surfaced for people who drive and work in the city’s downtown core.

Beginning May 1st, a second park and ride location will open at 2915 Douglas Street (between Topaz Avenue and Summit Avenue).

For $120 drivers can purchase one of 40 monthly spots. The purchase includes a parking spot as well as a bus pass.

The new lot is a partnership between the DVBA, Robbins Parking, BC Transit and the City of Victoria.

A park and ride lot already operates near Mayfair Mall.

The City of Victoria has also launched its own pilot project aimed at alleviating the ongoing parking woes in its own city parkades.

For $90-$100, long-term parkade pass holders can purchase a permit that allows them to park on certain streets, located close to but not in the downtown core.

Those streets are:

  • 500-block Discovery
  • 500-block Pembroke
  • 600-block Discovery
  • 600-block Pembroke
  • 600-block Princess
  • 2100-block Government St
  • Kimta Road

The city says about 40 people are currently taking part in the pilot project.
