BC Ferries' Queen of Nanaimo has been removed from service on the Tsawwassen - Southern Gulf Islands route due to a mechanical problem with a propeller.

While the Salish Eagle will continue to provide service on the route, the ferry company said the Bowen Queen will be brought in as a replacement vessel.

Officials said the Bowen Queen has less vehicle capacity than the Queen of Nanaimo and does not have an elevator.

People who cannot be accommodated on the replacement ferry are advised to travel from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay to connect to the Southern Gulf Islands route, which has larger capacity.
