Woman charged after 3-year investigation into fraud at City of Red Deer

A woman has been arrested three years after almost $100,000 was found to have been stolen from The City of Red Deer.

RCMP said the city reported in 2022 that it had found about $99,283 in internal fraud dating to 2018.

During that time, Mounties said a former employee in the city’s electric light and power department allegedly created several fraudulent purchases for goods and services that were never received.

On Friday, RCMP said a 35-year-old Calgary woman had been arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000, laundering proceeds of crime and using a forged document.

She is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on May 2.
