A Quebec-based aviation company is expanding in Edmonton.

Nolinor Aviation, Canada’s largest charter airline carrier, recently acquired the 41,600-square-foot North Cariboo Air complex in Nisku.

Nolinor was previously leasing the space, which includes a 30,000-square-foot hangar, doing mostly fly-in fly-out flights for mining companies.

“Having to purchase the facility here makes it sure that we’re going to stick around for years to come. So it gives us more assurance of our operations going to grow,” said Nolinor president Marco Prudhomme.

Prudhomme said the site will now become the first heavy maintenance site outside of Montreal, and will allow the company to add another Boeing 737-200 to the local fleet.

“We’ll be able to bring a second aircraft here in Edmonton,” he added. “That means more jobs, more pilots, more flight attendants, more mechanics. And for us, that’s quite positive.”

“Having this main base here for maintenance, it’s going to make it possible for us to bring other types of aircraft also further down the line.”

Recruitment is underway to staff the new maintenance line.
