The Telus World of Science (TWOSE) is temporarily closed after a “small fire” in the early afternoon on Monday.
The fire was immediately contained and the cause hasn’t been determined. It’s not considered suspicious at this time, TWOSE said in a news release.
No significant damage is expected and no exhibits were impacted.
TWOSE says several school groups were inside when the fire ignited and were all evacuated safely and brought inside school buses and the Edmonton Police Association building across the street.
“Our priority right now is to ensure the safety of all our visitors, staff, and volunteers,” said Kyla Amrhein, director of marketing and community relations with TWOSE.
“We are working closely with our City of Edmonton partners and are grateful that this will only result in minor disruptions to delivering on our mission to create a community of curious minds through the wonders of science. We look forward to welcoming everyone back as soon as possible.”
People who have passes or bookings while the building is closed are asked to contact TWOSE on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. by calling 780-451-3344.
They will either receive a refund or be given the opportunity to reschedule their visit.
TWOSE did not say when the building would reopen.
