Skechers has a new store at West Edmonton Mall, much different than its first one.
The shoe company opened its first ever “performance store” in the Alberta capital on Friday.
Located next to the rink where Urban Outfitters used to be, the new 7,500 square-foot store features basketball and pickleball half courts where athletes can test products.
“It’s performance, athletic. We entered the world of football, the world of soccer, the world of basketball, pickleball. It’s for everybody,” Michael Greenberg, co-founder and president of Skechers, told CTV News Edmonton.
Biz Nasty attends Skechers opening
Former player and Spittin' Chiclets co-host Paul Bissonnette, a.k.a Biz Nasty, attended the opening.
The first 100 customers got to meet him and take a photo with him.

“I love coming to Edmonton,” Bissonnette told CTV News Edmonton.
“We were here last year for the finals. Obviously, as a Canadian, I was rooting for the Oilers, and I hope to see them actually back in the mix this year, because NHL on TNT has the finals. A dream scenario for me would be Leafs and Oilers, and I’d be going head to head with my boy (Spittin' Chiclets co-host) Ryan Whitney, who used to play here, but all in all, love coming back to Edmonton, and as Wayne Gretzky always says, it’s about the people here that make Edmonton so special, and I always love my time here and coming back.”
Local band Brass Tactics performed at the event.
