A 66 year-old woman died after a fire at a seniors housing complex in Josephburg – a hamlet near Fort Saskatchewan – earlier this month according to Alberta RCMP.
It said the fire happened at Homestead Place around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1 and the flames were contained to one unit.
The Heartland Housing Foundation describes the residence as an 8-unit apartment complex that services the needs of rural seniors from Strathcona County and the Fort Saskatchewan area.
It said it manages the facility for the province which owns it.
The foundation’s CEO told CTV News Edmonton it has been supporting residents displaced by the fire.
Nancy Simmonds said they were cleared to return last week after all units were deemed safe.
RCMP said the fire is not considered suspicious but it remains under investigation.
