Semi-truck hits overpass on Sherwood Park Freeway, causes ‘extensive damage’: RCMP

An overpass in Edmonton was damaged after it was hit by an oversize load and it could lead to thousands in tickets. CTV News Edmonton's David Ewasuk reports.

A number of roads were closed in east Edmonton early Tuesday morning after a semi-truck hit an overpass.

A semi carrying logging equipment on Sherwood Park Freeway struck the overpass on 34 Street at around 11:30 p.m., the Edmonton Police Service said.

The crash caused “extensive damage,” RCMP said.

No one was hurt in the crash.

The following roads were closed after the crash: 34 Street northbound and southbound and Sherwood Park Freeway westbound.

Traffic was being diverted through the westbound ramps.

Drivers were asked to use alternate routes during the morning commute.

The bridge will remain closed indefinitely, RCMP said.
