Rogers Place and outdoor venues at Ice District will be updating how guests enter the venue starting Wednesday.
The new security process involves a gate equipped with frictionless screening technology that uses AI to identify and differentiate potential security risks from normal items someone would bring to an event, including phones and keys.
The new addition eliminates the need for guests to empty their pockets or purses upon arrival and efficiently streamlines guests into the facility.

“This new security screening will simplify access to Rogers Place, Ice District Plaza and Fan Park, ultimately enhancing our fans’ experience,” said Caroline Hamel, the vice-president of fan experience and security at OEG in a Tuesday news release.
“The safety of our fans in Ice District is a top priority for us and we’re always looking for ways to strengthen security,” she added.
If the scan identifies a possible risk entering the venue, it will send an alert to security who will place the scanned person into a secondary line where they will be searched.
As part of the new changes, fans will need to scan their ticket before going through the security checkpoint.
Rogers Place’s bag policy will remain unchanged, however fans are encouraged to leave their large bags at home and opt for a small body clutch instead.
The new security process will begin on Wednesday when the Edmonton Oilers host the St. Louis Blues at 8 p.m.
