A report on the mid-air crash between a helicopter and a plane near Edmonton last summer was released on Thursday.

A Bell 212 helicopter and a Cessna 172 plane crashed northwest of Edmonton, in the area of Sandy Lake, on July 9.

“The leading edge of the Cessna 172’s right wing tip, and the tail skid of the Bell 212 made contact,” the Transportation Safety Board of Canada wrote in its report.

“Both pilots in the Cessna 172 saw the Bell 212 passing from left to right moments before impact. The instructor reacted by pitching the aircraft’s nose down. The pilot of the Bell 212 did not see the Cessna 172 at all.”

There was a pilot in the helicopter and a flight instructor and a licenced pilot on the plane.

No one was injured in the crash but both aircraft were damaged.
