Wind will be the big story for today and Friday across most of central and northern Alberta.
It won’t be as strong as Tuesday, but we’re looking at gusts in the 40 km/h range for the Edmonton area starting mid-morning and continuing through most of Friday.
The gusts may back off a bit this evening and overnight, but not by much.
Expect gusts in the 50 km/h range for areas north of Edmonton and in the Peace Country and Slave Lake areas.
East-central Alberta could get gusts around 50 km/h as well.
Friday evening and Saturday look calmer, then probably a bit breezy for Sunday.
Some mixed precipitation and a few flurries have been pushing across the Edmonton region and surrounding areas early this morning.
That should all be out of the Edmonton area by mid-morning.
Peace Country has also seen some mixed precipitation and snow through this morning (that should end by midday as well).
It’s east-central and northeastern Alberta that will get most of the snow today. Several centimetres are likely from the Bonnyville region to north of Fort McMurray.
That should taper off by late this afternoon, although we’ll get another wave of flurries/light snow in the northeast corner of the province early Friday.
Not much chance for precipitation in the Edmonton region after this morning.
Temperatures remain above average through to at least the middle of next week.
We should -2 or -3 C today and hit highs in the -1 C range Friday and Saturday.
(The seasonal average high is -5 C.)
It’s still looking like a significant push of warm air comes in for Sunday-Tuesday and afternoons will very likely be in the 2 to 8 C degree range.
