Impaired driver clocked going more than double speed limit west of Edmonton: RCMP

Mounties have seized an older Ford truck after its driver was found going more than double the posted speed limit during an event in Stony Plain, Alta.

Officers first noticed the truck roll through a red light just after 2 a.m. on Sunday while it was making a right turn at the intersection of 44 Avenue and Southpark Drive, according to RCMP.

The truck was clocked going 120 km/h in a 50 km/h zone while driving west and was eventually stopped at the intersection of 48 Street and 49 Avenue.

Police say the driver appeared to be impaired and operating while suspended.

The driver was given a careless driving ticket, 24-hour roadside suspension and a summons for driving while unauthorized. The truck was seized for 30 days under Alberta’s Suspended Driver Program.

Mounties say the streets were especially busy at the time as Stony Plain was hosting an event in the area.
