The Edmonton Police Service has confirmed that a fire at an Edmonton grocery store has been deemed suspicious.
Crews arrived at the Superstore on Kingsway shortly before 1 p.m. on Monday to find heavy smoke coming from the building.
One person was taken to hospital as a result of the fire.
A cause and damage estimate has not been released.
An unnamed spokesperson for Loblaws says it’s unclear when the store will reopen.
“We’re working with the local authorities to understand the scope of the damage and are supporting our store colleagues during this time,” the spokesperson said in an email to CTV News Edmonton.
“Our goal is to reopen as soon as it’s safe to do so, but at this point we can’t confirm a specific date.”
