Edmonton’s PAWS for a CAUSE drive seeking pet food donations

The City of Edmonton is hoping to ease some holiday stress for pet owners this season with its annual pet food drive PAWS for a CAUSE.

“The holiday season can be challenging for many families, forcing some to make difficult decisions to ensure they have enough food for themselves and their pets,” said a statement from the city.

PAWS for a CAUSE began in 2023 with the city’s Animal Care and Control team supporting Edmonton’s Food Bank.

Last year’s drive collected more than 8,000 kg of pet food and supplies.

The drive accepts donations of new, unopened pet food and supplies at participating pet food suppliers across the city until Dec. 14.

There are three in-person events to celebrate the season on Dec. 13 and 14 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. where you can bring your pet to meet Santa, take a festive photo and partake in holiday activities with animal control officers:

Saturday, Dec. 13

“Pets are cherished members of many families, but rising costs have made it harder for some households to provide for them,” said the city.

Welcome donations include wet cat food, dry pet food, cat litter, treats, leashes and collars. All donated items must be new and unopened. Expired or used products will not be accepted.
