Edmonton weather: Cooler, cloudy and breezy, with some heat returning Friday

A cloudy start to the day in Edmonton with showers mostly staying south of the city (but, a few sprinkles early this morning in a couple neighbourhoods).

Showers will continue off and on across central Alberta through the morning. In Edmonton and the surrounding area, we’ll see a few more showers graze the south side and then some sunny breaks midday and early this afternoon.

A few scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop near or over parts of the city between roughly 6-9 p.m.

It’s an outside chance for Edmonton and area.

The best chance for some scattered thunderstorms late today will be in northeastern Alberta.

Temperatures will top out in the low 20s, with gusts in the 30-40 km/h range starting midday and through the afternoon.

We’re back to the mid to upper 20s for Friday/Saturday and back to sunnier skies.

There’ll be some increasing evening cloud tomorrow, but most of the daytime hours should be sunny.

Beyond Saturday, there’s considerable uncertainty with the forecast.

The latest run of the Canadian models is hinting at some showers across central and north-central Alberta on Sunday.

But, that’s not something we were seeing in previous runs and the American models continue to move those showers through on Monday instead of Sunday.

So...we’ll have to watch to see how that system develops.

For now, I wouldn’t place too much faith in the Sunday/Monday forecasts.
