Charges laid in northeast Edmonton stabbing death, assault

A man, 21, is facing a charge of second-degree murder and attempted murder in connection to a stabbing that killed a 19-year-old man.

Edmonton police have charged a man with second-degree murder and attempted murder after a stabbing in northeast Edmonton that left one person dead.

Around 2 a.m. on Monday, police were called to a stabbing at a residence in the area of 80 Street and 117 Avenue where they found a 19-year-old in distress. He was declared dead at the scene, a news release from Monday said.

An autopsy done on Tuesday confirmed the teen to be William Pratt, who died of a stab wound in what police say was a homicide, according to an updated news release.

Officers have since charged Jacob Soosay-Gauthier, 21, with second-degree murder. He was also charged with attempted murder in connection to the assault of another 18 year old at the residence.

Police say both victims were known to Soosay-Gauthier and they’re not considering any other suspects.
