Advisory lifted for Sturgeon River as water quality reaches ‘acceptable level’: AHS

The water advisory for parts of St. Albert’s Sturgeon River was lifted on Thursday.

Alberta Health Services issued the warning earlier this month at the Kingswood Boat Dock, Kingswood Park Day Loop and Kingswood Park Disc Golf Course.

A regional wastewater pipeline break had spilled untreated sewage and possible chemicals into the river. Elevated levels of fecal bacteria had been detected.

Officials now say water quality is at an acceptable level and the water can be used for recreational purposes.

“As always, visitors and residents are reminded to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any body, at any time,” a Thursday news release said.
