A fire that destroyed 25 units at an Edmonton strip mall was deliberately set, according to police.

Police are calling a large Edmonton strip mall fire an arson.

Investigators were called to the area of 92 Street and 34 Avenue just after midnight on Tuesday.

Flames engulfed several businesses and destroyed a total of 25 units, according to police. It is believed that the total cost of damages is several million dollars.

On Tuesday, CTV News Edmonton spoke with a long-time business owner who was worried when he saw the fire. He has worked in the area for 27 years.

“I wasn’t sure whether it was my office that was burnt down,” said Mitch Carr with Alliance Orthodontics. “I feel sorry for the people that it’s happened to. Hopefully sooner or later I can get back to getting my work done.”

The fire was deemed suspicious by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. The EPS Investigation Response Team was called in to take over the investigation.

Anyone with information, dash cam or security camera footage of the area between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Tuesday, are asked to contact police at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a cell phone.

Anonymous information can also be given to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
