Gates Guarin

Gates Guarin is a multimedia journalist with CTV News Edmonton. A born and raised Calgarian, he didn’t start his career in broadcasting. Gates made the decision to pursue his passion for storytelling and enrolled in SAIT’s Radio, Television and Broadcast News program in 2020 after graduating from the University of Calgary with an economics degree in 2014 and working in the corporate utilities sector for eight years. Gates graduated with honours in 2022 and has since made stops with CHAT Television in Medicine Hat and Global News in Saskatoon, getting the opportunity to cover major provincial affairs in Saskatchewan, including leading coverage for elections at all three levels and documenting the recent northern Saskatchewan wildfires. Although Calgary will always be home, Gates is excited to be back in his home province telling stories in Edmonton. In his off time, you can find Gates cheering for his favourite sports teams (a passionate Philadelphia Eagles, Toronto Blue Jays, and yes, the Calgary Flames), playing one of his many board games, or finding the next best local eatery with his partner Haley. Gates speaks English.
