The BC Coroners Service is investigating after a 50-year-old woman drowned while tubing in the Cowichan River on Saturday.

Lake Cowichan RCMP says the woman allegedly passed the “pull out” zone while rafting down the river, near Horseshoe Bend and Marie Canyon, and entered an area of rough water.

According to officials, the Duncan woman attempted to get to the side to exit the tube but became trapped underwater.

A 33-year-old man who was tubing with the woman attempted to resuscitate her until emergency crews arrived, police say.

The woman was airlifted to hospital where she died from her injuries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668.
