A church leader in Duncan is responding to serious sex assault allegations made by a woman who claims she suffered years of abuse at bible camp.

Alexis Masur says she attended the Cowichan River Bible Camp when she was 14 years old – and says that's where she was sexually assaulted.

She claims an authority figure at the camp sexually abused her from 2009 to around 2013, but says that person wasn't Samuel Emerson – a Surrey man facing multiple charges of sexual assault who served as a board member for the camp.

"This person did sexual acts on me which included touching my genitals. They also grabbed my hand and forced me to touch their genitals," Masur said.

She also said she told a camp official about the alleged abuse expecting something would be done, but it never was.

Her trauma is still so vivid, Masur said she's not ready to name her attacker or go to police.

CTV News showed up at Oasis Church, which is closely tied to the camp, on Tuesday to speak with the church's lead pastor.

Brandon Wall did not address Masur's claims directly but offered a statement on behalf of the church.

"If an investigation takes place, we plan to cooperate with the RCMP and trust that the process will clear the air around our two beloved organizations," said Wall.

The church has cut ties with Emerson as he awaits a court date for 13 counts of sexual assault and 12 other charges.
