A possibly fatal two-vehicle collision has shut down Sooke Road in both directions and a fix is not expected until late Friday night.

The BC Coroner's Service confirmed it had been dispatched to Sooke Road near Parkland Road, suggesting someone may have died in the collision.

Fire crews from Sooke and Langford confirmed they were attending the crash but did not provide any other details. Sooke Fire called it a "serious collision" that would shut down the route for hours.

Drive BC said the crash shut down the road with a detour available via Parkland Road to Blythwood Road and Woodlands Road.

Drive BC estimated that the highway would not reopen until 11 p.m., with an update on progress expected at 6 p.m.

There is no word on the cause of the crash.
