Charges against a young Port Alberni father were upgraded to manslaughter on Wednesday after his two-month-old daughter died.

Mounties were called by West Coast General Hospital after an infant arrived in medical distress last month.

The baby was later transferred to BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver where she died from her injuries on Nov. 3.

Warren Alfred Baader, 20, was initially charged with aggravated assault.

On Wednesday the crown approved charges of manslaughter against the young father in light of the infant’s tragic death, according to Port Alberni RCMP.

Baader’s next scheduled court date is Nov. 30.

The investigation is ongoing.
