‘Immediately stop using’: Health Canada warns against use of infant self-feeding devices

Health Canada warns against use of infant self-feeding devices available on AliExpress.ca (Health Canada).

Health Canada released a consumer product advisory on Thursday against the use of several self-feeding devices for babies and toddlers that are available for purchase on AliExpress.ca.

The shopping site says that 60 units of the affected products were sold in Canada, and they include:

• 330ml Baby Cups Can Be Rotated Magic Cup Kids Leak-proof Drinking Water Bottle Hand Free Cup BPA Free
• Baby Feeding Bottle Long Straw Hands-free Bottle Nipple Multifunctional Baby Bottle Kids Cup Silicone Sippy Mouth NO BPA
• Erduo Newborn Baby Water Feeding Bottles Gourdes Drinking Bottle Children with Straw Hands Free Silicone Baby Item Newborn Set

Manufactured in China, the advisory says these devices “pose a choking or aspiration hazard,” which can end in illness or death from aspirating the feeding liquid.

Among other breathing emergencies, choking is one of the leading causes of injury-related deaths for children in Canada.

Officials warn that infant self-feeding devices are “banned” across the country, and that unattended feeding devices are “discouraged” by Health Canada and professional medical associations.

“Consumers who have these affected products should immediately stop using them and dispose of the items,” Health Canada said.

Health Canada confirms the products have been removed from AliExpress.ca and officials have reached out to foreign third-party sellers to prevent further distribution.

While no injuries have been reported related to these products, officials urge Canadians to regularly check the Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database for dangerous products and take action to remove items of concern.
