Wint-Her and Momentum markets showcase Calgary entrepreneurs

Unique gifts and handcrafted items could be purchased at the Wint-Her Market, held at the YW Calgary Hub on Thursday night.

The community of Inglewood hosted an event showcasing some local female entrepreneurs on Thursday night.

Unique gifts and handcrafted items could be purchased at the Wint-Her Market, held at the YW Calgary Hub.

Booths at the market showcased 36 women-led businesses, many of them participants in community programs that help support entrepreneurship.

“It’s about just connecting our entrepreneurs to the community, bringing people in and connecting them to other business partners that can accelerate their businesses, too,” said Kailey Armstrong with YW Calgary.

This is the third year for the event.

A similar event will take place Friday afternoon—this one in support of local startups.

Thirty graduates from community group Momentum’s self-employment program will have stands set up, including one with treats for people with celiac disease.

“The idea was there, the ingredients were there, but presented to the customer, presented to the market in the right way, definitely, Momentum has a big hand in this,” said Akram Eldesouky with Velmira Delights.

“We believe that, for an entrepreneur, you never forget your first customer, and so it’s pretty exciting for them and it’s exciting for Calgarians that they get to be part of that moment,” said Jeff Loomis with Momentum.

The market runs Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Momentum.

The first 200 customers will receive a $10 voucher that’s as good as cash at the booths.
