Windy and wet start to Wednesday with double-digit highs for southern Alberta

Strong westerly winds have prompted a wind warning for the southwest corner of Alberta early Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada says “strong wind will gust up to 100 km/h from the west. The strongest winds will occur in the morning over the plains east of the Rockies.”

In Calgary, sustained winds of 30 km/h are expected by the afternoon with gusts closer to 50 km/h.

As expected, portions of southern B.C. and Alberta especially near the Rockies were hit by some snow and mixed precipitation overnight.

Road conditions appeared wet on many 511 Alberta and Drive B.C. cameras Wednesday morning and snow was accumulating along many shoulders on higher elevation highways.

Most of that moisture will remain west of the Highway 2 and QEII corridor over the next 24 hours and daytime highs are still expected to reach double-digits on Wednesday.

Daytime highs will drop back down to seasonal values in Calgary for Thursday and Friday, with the Halloween forecast including cloud, a chance of light and scattered rain, stronger wind, and an evening temperature around 4 C.
