Warm and windy Remembrance Day forecast

Warm for Remembrance Day in Calgary. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Daytime highs across southern Alberta will sit in the double-digits for Remembrance Day, including the city of Calgary.

There will be a mix of sun and cloud throughout the region with stronger west winds that will increase throughout the morning.

By 11 a.m., the temperature in Calgary should range from 7 C to 10 C with sustained winds of 20 km/h and gusts closer to 40 km/h.

Despite being warmer than average on Tuesday, temperatures will not be as warm as they were on Monday when six Alberta communities set new record highs, including Brooks (18.1 C), Camrose (14.1 C), and Jasper (14.4 C).

Many communities in southern Alberta also (unofficially) recorded peak wind speeds over 100 km/h on Monday, including Lethbridge (WSW 102 km/h), Pincher Creek (WSW 119 km/h), Stavely (SW 106 km/h) and Waterton Park Gate (WSW 124 km/h).

Peak winds at YYC International on Monday were unofficially 80 km/h, and 83 km/h at Canada Olympic Park.

The rest of the week will be a bit inconsistent in Calgary with a drop in temperatures on Wednesday, a mid-teen high on Thursday and mixed precipitation and a below seasonal high on Friday.

Most of the next seven days will be cooler as a low-riding jet introduces colder air across the west.

Daytime highs in Calgary will hover close to the freezing mark with lows around -5 C.
