2 men in life-threatening condition following Friday rollover on Deerfoot

Published:

Two men are in serious and life-threatening condition in the aftermath of a single-vehicle collision on Deerfoot Trail Friday afternoon.

At around 2:45 p.m., police were called to an area around Deerfoot Trail S.E. and 212 Ave. S.E. for reports of single-vehicle rollover.

Police believe a white 2007 GMC Savana van driven by a man in his 30s was driving south on Deerfoot when the vehicle drifted onto the centre median.

That caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which started to roll across southbound Deerfoot Trail until it stopped on the right-hand shoulder.

The driver was transported to hospital with life-altering injuries, while the passenger, a man in his 30s, was transported in life-threatening condition.

Police believe neither excessive speed nor impairment were factors.

Southbound Deerfoot Trail was shut down from Seton Boulevard S.E. to 212 Avenue S.E. in the aftermath of the crash.

At 9 p.m. on Friday, police advised all southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail had been reopened.
