The Free Label will soon find themselves in rarefied company with the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley and The Who. “It’s an honour, if anything. It’s an incredible feeling, something that you dream about,” lead singer and saxophone player Joshua Tsakas told CTV News. The Toronto R&B band will use the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio when they record a live album on Sept. 26 and 27 at the King Eddy in Calgary. The Stones used the studio to record Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street. Led Zeppelin used it to record Led Zeppelin III and Led Zeppelin IV. But don’t expect a cover version of Stairway to Heaven from the decidedly dance-oriented The Free Label. “It’s disco, funk, R&B, a little bit of soul,” Tsakas said. “I’m hoping nobody’s sitting down. I want everybody dancing.”
