Taking the golf swing to a whole new digital level

Terry Poscente has always had a passion for the game of golf.

He was an instructor for years and was always trying to come up with ways to make his students better.

“It’s so cool when that student has that ‘aha’ moment,” Poscente said.

“Teachers are always looking for the right thing for that student.”

Invented the Swing Jacket

When Poscente stepped away from teaching, he still wanted to help golfers, so in 2000, he invented the Swing Jacket.

That product went on to become one of the top 100 teaching aids in the sport.

Now, 25 years later, Poscente is back at it.

He and his business partner, Gerald Elliott, have invented the Digital Swing Coach.

Poscente hopes it will revolutionize the game.

“The Digital Swing Coach is a hitting mat with an unbreakable monitor that has a camera installed in the mat and radar installed in the mat.”

Personal launch monitor

The radar and camera capture all of the swing data.

In the monitor, there’s a computer that allows you to download lesson tips.

Poscente says it can also be your personal launch monitor.

“You can play your favourite golf course,” he said.

“You can play Pebble Beach while hitting real shots, not inside at a simulator hitting it 10 feet.”

Looking for a partner

The Digital Swing Coach is in the development stage, and there are still some kinks to work out.

Poscente believes he’s taken it as far as he can right now and is looking for a strategic partner to take the product further.

“We’re looking for a tactical strategic partner, basically, to take it over and run with it,” he said.

“Gerald and I don’t have the brains (for) the programming and the coding and all of that stuff.

“We’ve built the basic prototype where we’ve got the radar to work, and we’ve got the camera to work.”

Potential is limitless

The Digital Swing Coach weighs about five pounds (2.268 kg) and you can take it anywhere.

Poscente says the potential is limitless.

“You don’t need a golf ball. You can swing it in your backyard and it will give you all of your swing dynamics and it will give you all of your data,” he said.
