Suspect sought in Calgary grandparent scam

Calgary police are looking for help to identify an offender wanted in connection with a grandparent scam.

On March 23, a man contacted a woman living in the 100-200 block of Tuscany Ride Close N.W., claiming to be her grandson.

Police said the caller told the victim he was in an Edmonton jail and needed money for bail.

The woman ended up withdrawing $4,900 out of her bank account and called the offender at the phone number he provided during the initial call.

Police say the offender then came to her home, identified himself as an Edmonton Police Service detective, and left with the money.

The suspect is described as between 30 and 40 years old, 178 centimetres (5’10”) tall, with black hair and beard.
