This August long is no different.

The rest of Friday evening should be rather calm and pleasant for Calgary, though there is a low risk for thunderstorms to track into the city overnight.

There’s a lot of convection brewing over the Rocky Mountains, but many of those thunderstorm cells are losing energy as they move into the foothills.

However, for those in the area, it could be a very active night for you!

Saturday should start off fine for Calgary and the surrounding area with sun and cloud throughout the afternoon, but the Storm Outlook issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada has a bulk of the province, including the city, under a minor risk threat for thunderstorms tomorrow.

The primary hazards for Calgary if a storm rolls through will be winds up to 70 km/h, hail up to 2 cm in diameter, and localized rainfall up 25 mm.

Models predict the most severe active weather tomorrow to roll through Calgary at around 9 pm, and as it stands now, the SW/SE quadrants will see the most intense conditions.

The back half of the weekend brings increased cloud cover and scattered showers for Sunday and the holiday Monday, with a chance of isolated thunderstorms as well.
