Police seized 17.5 kilograms of drugs as part of a trafficking investigation carried out in both Calgary and Edmonton.
After launching an investigation this month, police identified several people believed to be trafficking drugs.
On March 15, police searched a home in the 200 block of Sovereign Common S.W., arresting two people.
As a result of the search, police seized:
- 11.5 kilograms of methamphetamine;
- 500 grams of cocaine;
- $30,000 in cash;
- High-end jewelry; and
- Designer handbags.
Police believe the jewelry and handbags were purchased with the proceeds of crime.
A man and a woman, both 32 years old from Calgary, are each facing charges related to drug trafficking. They are both scheduled to appear in court on April 2.
After sharing information with the Edmonton Police Service, another man was arrested on suspicion of transporting drugs from Calgary to Edmonton.
Edmonton police seized an additional six kilograms of methamphetamine and $4,000 in cash.
A man, 28, of Edmonton, is also facing drug trafficking charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 9.
“This investigation highlights how crime in Calgary can extend beyond our municipal borders and the importance of working together with our law enforcement partners to hold drug traffickers accountable,” Acting Staff Sgt. Jake Debolt, of the CPS District 4 general investigations unit, said in a news release.
