Okotoks Dawgs kick off 2026 WCBL season with 20th birthday party for Seaman Stadium

A packed house of 6,498 celebrated Canada Day at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, where they Dawgs defeated the Brooks Bombers 15-4.

Seaman Stadium in Okotoks turns 20 this season and is celebrating with a season-opening homestand hosted by the Okotoks Dawgs.

The award-winning ballpark, which was recognized as the best ballpark in summer collegiate baseball has been upgraded and expanded, with the addition of Section 112 and the Custom Me in 2023 by Ballpark Digestchanical Field Level Suite.

It upgraded the Duvernay Fieldhouse, where they’ve added a weight room and pitching and hitting lab.

As far as the Dawgs go, they’re looking to win their fourth WCBL title in the past five seasons, making them the most successful sports franchise in southern Alberta this side of the Brooks Bandits junior hockey team.

Okotoks averaged 4,075 fans a game in 2025, more than double the average attendance of the next best team in the WCBL, the Saskatoon Berries. The Dawgs routinely are ranked in the top three summer collegiate baseball in terms of attendance.

“We’re incredibly proud to celebrate 20 seasons of Dawgs Baseball in Okotoks,” said Dawgs managing director John Ircandia, in a media release. “The passion and support from our fans over the years has meant everything to our organization, and we’re grateful for it every single day.

“Reaching this milestone is a testament to the loyalty of our supporters and our generous donors,” Iricandia added. “We are excited to celebrate this special season together all summer long.”

Okotoks kicks off their regular season Friday night against the Sylvan Lake Gulls, followed by Saturday and Sunday games against the Lethbridge Bulls.

Friday’s game will include a tribute to Don Seaman, honouring his contributions to the Dawgs organization and baseball in Alberta.
