A Calgary man has been charged with murder in connection with a death in the community of Legacy earlier this week.
Police say officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Legacy Boulevard S.E. just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of a man in medical distress following an “altercation.”
Officers arrived to find one man dead.
Police took another man into custody from the scene.
On Wednesday, following an autopsy, police announced Stefan Simion Bel, 37, of Calgary has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
“Investigators believe an altercation involving a weapon ensued between two men inside a residence …. And one man was fatally assaulted,” said a Wednesday news release.
Bel is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
Police say the identity of the victim, a man in his 60s, will be released once his next of kin has been notified. Investigators say he’s not from the Calgary area.
His death is Calgary’s fourth homicide of 2025.
