More snow expected Friday as part of unsettled weather pattern

More snow expected by Friday. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Dense fog covered Calgary and portions of southern Alberta early Wednesday prompting a yellow-level fog advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada.

In their alert the weather agency explained, “Near zero visibility in fog is occurring,” noting conditions are expected to improve throughout the day.

Daytime highs will sit around freezing on Wednesday in Calgary and near 4 C on Thursday, before starting to drop down on Friday.

Cold air is expected to settle across most of the country to start the weekend, linked to a low-riding polar vortex.

More snow is possible late Thursday and on Friday across central Alberta and the B.C. interior.

Calgary should see between one to three centimetres with that system before a rapid warm-up Sunday.

Sunday’s forecast high will be 11 degrees warmer than Saturday’s.
