More rain expected this week, especially west of Calgary

Rain and thunderstorms expected this week. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Tuesday will bring mild and seasonal conditions for most of central and southern Alberta.

Daytime highs in Calgary should sit near average values until Wednesday with light and scattered rain forecast along the foothills.

Scattered thunderstorms rolled through Calgary on Monday, with nearly 10 millimetres of rain recorded at the airport (the official Environment and Climate Change Canada weather station).

As of 7 a.m., rain was still falling south and west of Calgary because of the counter-clockwise rotation around a low pressure system situated east of the region.

More intense thunderstorms are possible in central and southern Alberta on Wednesday with heavier accumulations expected along the leading edge of a frontal system.

In Calgary, rainfall totals on Wednesday and Thursday are likely to range from four to six millimetres.

The long-range forecast shows weather that is typical of May, a mix of sun and cloud, little consistency in temperatures and frequent periods of showers and/or thunderstorms.
