More fog expected tomorrow ahead of a week of daytime highs in the 20s

Still a chance of some rain for Calgary this week. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

As expected, fog patches formed in portions of central and southern Alberta early Thursday morning.

Recent rain that combined with minimal wind and cooler overnight temperatures, allowed the air to become saturated just above the surface early on Thursday.

A similar situation is likely early Friday with overnight values in some communities forecast to hover around the freezing-mark which could enhance fog development – especially in low-lying areas and communities along the foothills.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible Thursday in areas (mostly) north of Calgary, with more widespread rain likely Friday afternoon and evening.

There is also a chance of severe thunderstorm development on Friday with a risk of a more storm organization and available energy.

The likely target areas include storms tracking west to east along the QEII corridor and as far south as Lethbridge.

After that period of instability, a dominant ridge of high pressure will settle over the west driving temperatures close to 30 C in some communities and only a minimal risk of active weather.

The normal range of temperatures in Calgary this time of year is 17 C for the daily high and 4 C for daily lows.
